Guest MistysDad
My 7 year old male grey is presenting with a hematoma on the inside of his hind quarters. His whole right side inside hind quarter is a bluish red color. He has had this before and it seems to take about a week to disappear. He seems to get it after being lifted into to SUV on the way to lure coursing events. Anyone experienced this problem? Have any ideas about causation? JohnF
If it's not simple bruising leading to heamatoma, or is it seroma (clear), from traumatic handling then it will be platelet and clotting issues which can be from auto-immune conditions or a genetic predisposition. Bruising is more likely as they get older because the skin loses its elasticity and fat layer protection. Perhaps have a chat with your vet about NSAID use, future anaesthetic use, and check liver, kidney, pancreas, parasites, potential abnormal cell growth etc. Edited October 27, 2014 by JohnF
Guest MistysDad
JohnF Thank you for your reply. Will discuss with vet since he is due for his semi-annual examination.
