Guest FoGSouthFL
Hey guys... I have a 6 yr old greyhound who was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg. We are going to have the leg amputated next week and wanted to start her on chemo immediately after. Does anyone know about or have the contact info for Ohio State's 4L4H program? I was told that they offer free chemo treatment as part of the program for retired racers. My greyhound was retired in 2011 after 3 years of racing. She suffered a leg injury which cut her career short. Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!!
winnie
I'm so sorry to hear about your girl. We lost our Faye Oops to osteo in 2011. There is an existing thread with TONS of good information and support for osteo. tbhounds
It's my understanding that they are still offering the free chemo (carboplatin)--you may need to contact the blood bank for further information.
Tallgreydogmom
CONTACT INFORMATION FOR FREE CHEMO AT OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY Cristina Iazbik Iazbik, Maria (iazbik.1@osu.edu) Dr Cristina Iazbik is the contact person at the blood bank for the chemo. DO EMAIL HER FOR MORE INFORMATION AND TO GET THE PROCESS MOVING. The only drug they can offer is Carboplatin (4 doses) and she will need the path report with the diagnosis, the current weight of the dog (after amputation) and the address of the veterinarian to ship the drugs. iazbik.1@osu.edu Edited June 13, 2014 by Tallgreydogmom Quote Then God sent the Greyhound to live among man and remember. Guest greytkidsmom
We contacted OSU when our Lucas was diagnosed and they were very quick to respond. Best of luck to you and your girl. As Dr. Couto says...greyhounds are born with three legs and a spare.
Tallgreydogmom
Make sure your vet uses Amicar for the bleeding. They should be on it before the surgery. Quip, our current tri-pod had the amputation in October following by the chemo. He is now 8 months post amp with a CLEAN chest x-ray 2 weeks ago. Thank you Lord. Guest FoGSouthFL
Thanks for the help and kind words. We are one week post-op and she's recovering perfectly. She is starting chemo on Saturday. OSU came through and is sending the 4 doses directly to the Cancer Center. Crossing our fingers that she responds well to the chemo.
