Guest Georgiajed
Does anyone have food suggestions or lessons learned for hounds that have undergoone tie back surgery. We are currently feeding our GH a combination of shrded people food, along with Kirkland Super Premium Canned / Wet. Our 11.5 year old senior appears to do better with a softer texture. Prior to surgery we were feeding Taste of the Wild Dry with water added. We tried breaking up the TOTW, but found this to be very difficut. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks. . Guest MnMDogs
We didn't make any significant changes to Mork's diet after his surgery. We added some water to his kibble, but that was it... We didn't soak it, change foods, avoid anything... And he never had an issue with aspiration during the 3 years we had him after the surgery. In fact, we also feed TOTW, and that's what he was on before surgery and after. He did cough quite a bit when eatng, and his little eating area had coughed up bits of food stuck to the walls, but he still ate with vigor and never had any issue aside from coughing. There are quite a few folks who had LP surgery for their pups, so maybe others will jump in. Does your pup have problems eating? Mork was a food hound so our biggest fear was aspiration, and we checked his temperature A LOT any time he coughed those first few months, but as I said, we never had any issues aside from him coughing up some kibble with every meal. Scritches to your sweet houndie. The tie back was the best decision we made in managing our Mork's LP.
Sambuca
If he does better with softer foods, you can take his kibble and soak it for an hour or 2 before feeding it.
