Rustyroo
Franny could use a bath, but our temporary housing is not very conducive to bathing a dog. And it's way too cold right now to do anything outside. So any ideas of how I can the stinky smell out without a giving her a bath? KF_in_Georgia
Waterless shampoo. It comes in a spray bottle at pet stores. Spray it until she's damp, then towel her dry. It'll get off dirt and it's pleasantly scented. I've used it when I had a stinky dog who got sick after her spay and barfed on herself. OwnedBySummer
You can also brush her after you spray her and before you towel her (you may not even need the towel). I like to use my cat ZoomGroom for this and sometimes I'll even spray the ZoomGroom a bit. The moistness when you're brushing helps to get out even more loose hair and junk. Maybe your area has a dog wash you could go to? Those are handy -- you pay something like $20 and use their raised bath and they'll provide shampoo and towels, often the use of a dog dryer (I like the kind which look like a canister vacuum and YOU control the duration and intensity, NOT the kind attached to a crate). ramonaghan
Second the waterless shampoo/grooming foam. I love Earthbath, which you can get at Petsmart, Amazon, or sometimes TJ Maxx. Green Tea is a nice, mild scent. Or you can mix a cup of baking soda (and a cup of cornstarch if you have it) with a few drops of lavender oil, massage it in, let sit for a few minutes, and brush it out with a ZoomGroom or similar. Works well but obviously can get messy, so spread plenty of newspapers or towels first. Quote Rachel with Doolin Doodle Dooooo, boss cat Tootie, and feline squatters Crumpet and Fezziwig. zoesmommy
At times, I've actually used a baby wipe. They're gentle, a little moist, won't harm the eyes if you accidentally get it near them and they're also great for cleaning out the ears. Plus they just smell nice. Guest Houston1219
There is a dog grooming academy near my home. The "professor" there is wonderful, and its an extremely small class size place. When we walk in the front door to "check in" Houston bypasses the desk and runs straight into the back and waits for the students to come over and pamper him. When we pick him up he will run out, "say hi" to mom and dad, and try to sneak back into the back room with the students It's the same concept as having your hair trimmed at the local beauty school, and the savings are wonderful! Check to see if you have a local dog grooming academy
