queenwinniesmom
Poor Lydia! Have you tried EMT gel for her cut? The harness also sounds like a good suggestion. Yep, that's what we're using. She won't let us take her down the steps with a harness or sling---or even holding onto her collar. Being such a drama queen, she will scream if she thinks you're trying to hold her back. And then she lunges forward, as if a 13 year old Greyhound could sail down 23 steps---gotta love the stubborn old girl. She's actually been doing really well on the steps lately. I think we're just going to have to make sure she's not interfered with---she goes out before or after the others---and try and protect that fragile skin. Knock on wood, the current bandages are doing their job with no slippage. I'm still trying to get the blood out of my rugs, dog beds and couches. I think maybe leg warmers and coconut oil are what we try next. Lydia says thanks to everyone for all the good thoughts. Nadir.... winnie
And then she lunges forward, as if a 13 year old Greyhound could sail down 23 steps---gotta love the stubborn old girl. Lydia sounds just like our 13 y/o Darcy. Darcy does everything full speed. She has essential nerve tremors which make her legs shake like Elvis, but that doesn't stop her from running up/down stairs. Glad to hear Lydia is going better. queenwinniesmom
I thought you might want to see what we're dealing with as far as those evil steps. So you can see why a ramp would be fun, but not too practical. She's doing great on the steps! We just have to keep them clear, and have her go up and down all by herself. Oh, you'll see the front of the house as well. All I can say is, we didn't think too far ahead 23 years ago when we bought a house on the high side of the street. Never again. And here she is, showing everyone how beautiful she looks in bright yellow. krissn333
Oh man that looks like such a nightmare. In the winter especially. Yet another reason a ranch home is the only thing I will buy from now on. No way my old kids could have dealt with something like that, and I'm fairly certain Clarice at less than 2 years old would find a way to hurt herself too. rascalsmom
I think *I* would be afraid to navigate those steps in the winter time! I think Lydia needs a bright yellow collar to match those bandages. Quote Phoebe (Belle's Sweetpea) adopted 9/2/13. Jack (BTR Captain Jack) 9/28/05--11/2/12Always missing Buddy, Ruby, and Rascal. Guest grey_dreams
Wow, those are a lot of stairs for navigating both front and back. Must be what keeps you young Too bad you couldn't set up something like a small elevator off the side of the back porch.
EllenEveBaz
Your steps Lydia looks beautiful in yellow, but I wish it was just decorative. I drove my real estate agent crazy when I moved and was looking for my present house. I didn't care about the house front, but wherever the dogs would go out had to be as flat as possible. It's been a real blessing with Nutmeg, now 12-1/2.
