Guest happygrey
Bentley does this weird thing often when Desmond is "nesting" his bed before lying down. Bentley stares at Desmond when he starts digging at his bed and then runs over to Des and growls. Bentley is usually settled on his own bed when this happens. It really seems to bother Bentley for some reason. Desmond never really seems to care that Bentley growls and we intervene by telling Bentley to knock it off. It's really strange. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? In the yard & when running, Bentley is completely submissive to Desmond. This is the only time that I've ever seen Bentley turn it around. Makes me wonder what on earth is going through his head!
Padfootx13
I don't know about with Greyhounds, but between my parents and sister/brother in law there are sometimes 3 small dogs in the house- a maltese, minature poodle, and terrier/maltese mix and when one of them nests the others all get up, run over to, and bark at the one nesting. It's almost as if the other dogs think they might be missing out on something good, even if they are happily asleep before it all starts. Quote Padfoot the greyhound fr. Guest happygrey
Thanks for responding! I appreciate it. I thought maybe we were the only ones... It's so weird to me. Something about Desmond trying to get comfortable really seems to bother Bentley. I'm glad to hear he's not the only dog that's a weirdo. JenniferS
Wylie will sometimes do this when Razz is nesting.I think he thinks she's just being a pain in the neck though, and disturbing his rest! Guest happygrey
Wylie will sometimes do this when Razz is nesting. I think he thinks she's just being a pain in the neck though, and disturbing his rest! Thanks, Jen. I am glad to hear that another grey does it. Though I have to say I'd expect it to be Razz who was bugging Wylie. As you know, Bents can be a bit of nudge (PITA) so it's not that much of a shocker. I always love to Desmond's complete non-reaction too. Maybe that's why Bentley insists on doing it. He's tired of Des blowing him off. Vin0770
I also am grinning when I read this as they are really still unique. I have one that nests in her crate at bedtime and the other I have to make his bed. Maybe it is a combination of the pawing and the sound of it that triggers something in him back from something in his youth that is a strong memory that gets this reaction.
