Guest jvandover
It started a couple days ago (may have been Thursday, may have been Friday morning). Chad will (seemingly) randomly yelp when moving around, and he has been issuing a quick little "cry" sometimes while lying down (and I think not moving), as many as 4 times last night, and assorted times during the day. Chad seems normal in every way. He is eating fine, pooping and peeing (although, his poop has been firmer than usual), he is excited for treats, and when I get home, he will play with toys, and he will "sing" with me if I roo at him. It seems as if something is hurting him. I have checked him over as thoroughly as I know how (starting with his paws, and legs) and he seems to have full motion of everything and all his joints work with no discomfort, or at least none shown. I am not a vet (duh) but I have tried pressing on his tummy/abdomen to see if anything bothers him, but again no response. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? If it is still going on Monday, I am thinking of taking him to the vet, but it seems silly since I have nothing to go on.
tbhounds
My guess is he hurt his neck or back. Does he yelp when he rises from a lateral (laying on his side) position??? If so, strict rest, walk only with a harness, medications that will help are a NSAID like rimadyl, pain meds like Tramadol and a muscle relaxant like robaxin. Moist warm compresses will benefit too :-) Edited January 18, 2014 by tbhounds
dante2zoe
Hi! Fancy began acting just like Chad yesterday. She appears to have strained her neck. She won't jump up on the couch, push through the dog door or pick a treat off the floor. She didn't respond to any poking or prodding, either. I gave her a Deramax this morning and she is feeling somewhat better. I might give her a Robaxin tonight, if needed. I hope Chad feels better soon! Guest jvandover
He seems to be okay now. We did get a harness to try it out, we were thinking about it anyways because he jumps at buses/trucks.
jetcitywoman
Capri was doing that and we took her for a long round of vet evaluations. We ended up putting her on daily Cosaquin and that solved the problem for her. We couldn't find anything wrong with her, so figured it was just osteoarthritis from her long racing career. Seems to have been the right diagnosis because she's better now. sobesmom
Sounds like something in the neck/spine. Take it easy for a few days and see if it straightens up. If it continues, I'd have it checked out.
