Guest saltwaterron
Riley likes to stay outside all the time except when raining. She is not even interested in eating when she gets up in the morning. At one time eating was the 2nd thing she did in the morning Sometimes it's after noon before she wants to eat. Anyone have a grey who wants to be outside all the time?
Guest WhiteWave
Joey does. He spends all day outside while I'm at work. And he doesn't even care if it raining. When I'm home he is 50/50 inside/outside. He likes to be inside to see what I'm doing, but prefers outside because he has more room to play. If I got Ronon an indoor potty island thing I saw on Animal Planet (had grass and a fire hydrant) he would never leave the house! He absolutely hates going outside other than going hiking. Houndtime
My daughter adopted a black lab who was about 1 years old at the time. His name is Bolt and it is very fitting. You have to be very careful with him as he will bolt out the door as soon as it is opened. He loves to sit on the back steps to her yard all day long. No matter what the weather. Guest saltwaterron
I guess her desire to be outside makes me question whether I am giving her enough attention. Most days I walk her 2-3 times. She enjoys that but not as much as getting a treat
Guest Greyt_dog_lover
That hound would learn in my house after day one when feeding time is. 6:15am and 5:00pm, that's it. Food is down for 5 minutes, then its gone until dinner. You may want to try to reinforce a more structured eating times so that if one day the need comes for regular medication, it will be much easier to get the hound to eat it. Guest Shermanator
We live in sunny AZ and my dogs are outside all the time. We keep beds outside for them. Even in the summer they are outside lounging in spurts- 10 min outside, 30 minutes in the AC, repeat all day long. Thank goodness for fences and dog doors! RedHead
Mine loves to be outside in nice weather. My old dog wanted to be outside all the time. Even in the winter when temps were frigid she would cry and whine to sleep outside in her little house (she was a malamute, not a greyhound!). She got tons of attention, 2-3 long walks each day and was perfectly happy.
sobesmom
I had a foster that we had to drag in the house. He LOVED to be in the fenced yard. He spent most on his inside time (when not eating or sleeping) staring out the window. Of course, he was here during the summer. I'll bet he'd have changed his tune in the winter. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Some dogs just like to be outside.
JenniferS
Razzy loves to sit outside on the deck and hunt. We have an inflatable bed out there and in decent weather, she will sit out there for hours. Guest DogNewbie
Wiley sometimes will eat his breakfast right away, and sometimes he will only pick at it and then eat it in the afternoon. He seems to go through periods were he hoovers his breakfast and some phases where he doesn't really touch it at all. There have been some days where he doesn't get dinner because he still has breakfast left! Does she like the flavor of her kibbles?
Guest saltwaterron
Loves her food. When she eats she pretty much eats it all. It's been in the 40's today and she wants to be outside. Concerns me because she has a heart condition
Guest Greyt_dog_lover
What type of heart condition does she have?
Guest saltwaterron
vet who did the ultrasound diagnosed it as dilated cardiomyopathy. that was almost 3 years ago and she seems to be doing well.
Guest Greyt_dog_lover
If she's not on meds, I don't think I would worry too much about the heart condition. If she has access to come inside on her own, then I would expect her to go inside once she gets uncomfortable. I seriously doubt the hound would be able to override the self-preservation instinct that all dogs have.
Guest saltwaterron
No access to come in I'm always checking on her to see if she wants to come inside though
