Increased Limping In 14 1/2 With Ls

Recommended Posts

Less than a week ago I sent my Ig to the bridge. I am heartbroken. We now have just Missy ...lost Flex (Ig) last week and Garry (Missy's grey buddy) a while ago. She was my first grey...and an alpha dog for sure. This is the first time since 2004 she is an only dog..we are giving her extra attention.

We have been treating her LS with acupuncture, tramadol, gabapetin and supplements.cant take NSAIDs anymore. Has had depo shots. Shortly after losing Flex, I noticed greater difficulty getting up. and then an increase in limping. I upped the GABA to three times a day...keep her on two times when doing ok. She typically gets 100mg tramadol in morning..Saturday and Sunday I gave her n additional 50mg in evening.

Last night she was limping so bad when I let her out around midnight.looked more like front legs.....acupuncture can't come until Thursday..

I will give my vet a call..I am worried this is the beginning of the end for her....

I am sorry to hear of the loss of Flex and your troubles with getting Missy comfortable. It sounds like you have her on a protocol that should work but a vet visit may provide alternatives or recommend an increased dosage. Wish you could get to the acupuncture sooner.

It's tough as our family gets old and we just want to help them be as comfortable as possible. Pal got depo injections for several years with *excellent* results. When it seemed that those weren't working as well, we did acupuncture and that got him through for a while, then the car rides to get to treatments became too much and I did Adequan injections at home. He did really well on those too, along with Tramadol and supplements. I would try giving her Tramadol both a.m. and p.m., and massaging her back and legs could also give her some relief.

It is never, ever long enough, but 14.5 is a huge accomplishment. :goodluck with your sweet girl.

Thank you. I did adequan injections for her myself for quite a while. I think they helped. I stopped after using the generic alternative when it was not available . One injection resulted in an infection..and I lost my confidence. she is going to the vet tomorrow . The vet that does corn hulling is not in until then. I know there is a corn on her right hind leg. Two car trips will be too much..so I opted to wait until tomorrow.

Hopefully the limp is due to the corn(s) coming. Adequan is available again so maybe you can add that back to your protocol. Please let us know how Missy does with her appointment, and hang in there.

My vet removed her corn on back right, gave her a depo shot and trimmed her nails. her hind end is getting more unstable (which is expected). the limping was from front right..no corns..but this morning, she is walking much better. acupuncture today or tomorrow will hopefully help her to continue to improve.
