rschultz
Lexie is 8 years old. We board her several times a year. She usually gets the booster every year. Is that the norm? Should she be getting it every 6 months? I don't want to overdo it if I don't have to. Thanks Quote 💙💜💚💛❤️ I forgot how to put a pic in my signature. Please pm me if you can help. KF_in_Georgia
Check with where you board her. Many boarding kennels will require that a dog has had that vaccine within the last 6 months. Beachbum1
Taylor and Face get their booster every 6 months, per their vet.
KF_in_Georgia
I'm pretty sure PetSmart requires "within six months" for boarding, and possibly also for daycare. Another consideration for you is how much your dog is in the face of other dogs who may or may not have been vaccinated. I was careful to stick to every six months for my girl, who does lots of meet and greets, as long as I had a frail 13-year-old she might bring trouble home to. The 13-year-old is gone now, and my girl is about to hit a fairly busy season for meet and greets, but she had her last vaccination in late May, so she's good through the fall meet-and-greet rush. kudzu
Never do bordatella unless mine are boarded or taking classes in a facility that also boards dogs. If there they will be somewhere that requires it then it is the nasal vaccine done every 6 mos.
OwnedBySummer
I just spoke to a vet about this, nasal bordatella specifically, and she said... that bordatella is marked as effective for one year but the true effectiveness is really only for 6 months. sarabz
In NYC we were required to have it done every 6 months. Now that we're in CT we'll probably go back to yearly as if Bella's not traveling with us she'll be staying with my parents whose dogs never leave the property. Hubcitypam
It starts losing power after 6 months or so - my vet was explaining to me... I don't board my dogs and it is only effective for less than 50% of strains so we don't do it.
