Jen- I just sent you a message- but maybe you'll check here first -- when Bleu had her episodes they were certain at first that she had additions -- in fact the first preliminary test they do she was off the chart positive - but second test was negative - so.I'm guessing many symptoms are the same - ask about this possibility

Really quick update as I am exhausted and just now eating a pseudo dinner and then need to get to bed. I don't think there's any question at this point that it's rhabdo. They have her on fluids and 3 types of antioxidants. They also have her on Fentanyl for pain and since that seemed to be making her anxious/panty (which they were worried would bring up her temp), a DexDormitor (sp?) drip to keep her calm. They have her on pepcid too, not sure if I'm missing anything.

They did the estimate for hospitalization, fluids, meds, etc for 2 nights, but the vets seem to think she will likely need to be there 3-4 days. They expect she will get worse before she gets better. I am just hoping that I did enough once I saw the dark urine to stave off the worst case scenario, and that those few hours screwing around with the idiot vet didn't cost her.

I do think she's in very capable hands now, although I would love the input of Dr. Radcliffe, but he is out of the office until Sept 18th according to their voicemail. :( If anyone has any suggestions on anything else we can do, please let me know. They are holding off on ABs for the time being, that's the only thing I know of that I've read is given that they aren't doing.

Most importantly, thank you all for the support! I think we have a rough few days ahead of us, but I am hopeful I did enough that she recovers.

Oh gosh, Jen :grouphug

Sounds like she is in capable hands...do try to get some rest. I have no doubt that you did everything possible, INCLUDING possibly catching it early. I'm not certain I'd have noticed a change in color of urine without her exhibiting other symptoms. But YOU did.

Continued good thoughts for you and your sweet girl :grouphug

Information from this case may be of help.

Successful management of a dog that had severe rhabdomyolysis with myocardial and respiratory failure.

Thanks. :) I actually came across that while waiting at the vet's office for b/w results. When the vet came back, we went through each treatment they gave item by item and discussed whether it was relevant to Violet's case or not. As a result, they added CoQ10 and L-Carnitine (both of which the vet discovered they had on hand) to her treatment protocol even though they already had her on a strong anti-oxidant. We also discussed the Dantrolene, which I thought was an interesting prospect since it's used to treat malignant hyperthermia, but the vet didn't feel it was advisable given that there wasn't much literature on it's use, but could potentially affect the liver after she did some research. We are definitely in good hands at this facility. :nod
