Houndmommy03
Vet is recommending this. Seems expensive and I'd have to learn to give the shots (yikes!). I felt like he was trying to "sell me" on it. Edited to add: This is for arthritis. Burpdog
I've used in on someone (can't remember who) and the vet did the shots. It didn't make a noticeable difference, but keep in mind my guys are all on supplements when they are old. The best results for mine have been alternative supplements and treatments. Houndmommy03
What supplements? Vet recommended glucosamine. Vet gave me Rimadyl to try and wow, we walked at our normal pace tonight. It was nice to see him more "perky". Quote <p>Kim and the hound - RumorMissing my angels Marlow, Silver, Holly and Lucky
Guest MnMDogs
I give Mork injections every week in the muscle next to his spine. I think it makes a difference.
riverbosun
Adequan is like a super charged glucosamine. I used it on Coyote and initially thought it wasn't effective but I have to say after a month I did notice an improvement (Coyote was limping and xray revealed arthritis in his shoulders). Initially it was twice a week for 6 weeks and then the intervals became spaced out. Giving the shot is really not hard. winnie
My horse has been getting bi-montly Adequan injections for about 1.5 years now. Its made a HUGE difference. My vet is amazed at how well she is doing too. I give the shots myself, but I'd imagine giving shots to a horse is easier than a dog. Pepsi2004
I do know that there is a shortage that is expected to resolve in early 2014. http://www.chronofhorse.com/article/adequan-shortage-prolonged
winnie
I do know that there is a shortage that is expected to resolve in early 2014. http://www.chronofhorse.com/article/adequan-shortage-prolonged There was an update that they now expect to have it available this month. "Luitpold has been working closely with the Food and Drug Administration to assure that Adequan® is made available as soon as possible. As a result of these efforts, we have been able to revise our target date for product availability from our original estimate of the first quarter 2014. We now anticipate release of Adequan® products to the market beginning in late August, 2013." http://www.adequan.com/pdf/AHD011AdequanPR_8_1_13_CVM_Luiptold.pdf Quote Laura with Celeste (ICU Celeste) and Galgos Beatrix and Encarna The Horse - Gracie (MD Grace E) Bridge Angels Faye Oops (Santa Fe Oops), Bonny (Bonny Drive), Darcy (D's Zipperfoot)

Guest JoyceJ
I've just started my 14 year old Autumn on chondroprotec injections because of the adequan shortage. My vet does them and they're only $15. Our plan is for vet to do injections every 10 days to 2 weeks for a couple of months. I am trying this because I do not want to give her rimadyl and the tramadol and gabapentin just didn't seem to be working. And because the "best" vet for acupuncture is on medical leaver herself until the fall. For her age, she has very little arthritis showing on the xrays. Houndmommy03
Joyce, why don't you want to give her Rimadyl? Just curious as I am considering keeping Silver on the Rimadyl.
