Guest Momlinda
Hi, I have has to re-join Greytalk because of changing email addresses and forgotten passwords due to move to Japan. I have one greyhound. Her name is Astrid and she will be 11 on December 5th. She is a beautiful blue with a beautiful white face and I love her. She is adapting well to Japan and is always a spectacle when we go out. There aren't many big dogs here (other than on base) and most here have never seen a greyhound in person. She loves the attention too! I posted earlier today about her eyes being dilated and glassy all the time. Hopefully will hear back from some of you. I'm glad there is this forum to find things out and share things about our furry family members.

Finnsliz
At 11 years old sounds like she is developing some cataracts in her eyes. That is about the age my Wink started. Welcome back! RedHead
Welcome I lived in Tokyo, Japan about 6 years ago...so many small (immaculate groomed and dressed!) dogs everywhere, but I didn't see any greyhounds. I hope things are adjusting well!

Our grey has a condition in which her pupils do not constrict in bright light and it always looks like her eyes are dilated. Her vet said that we could take her to a canine ophthalmologist, but if it doesn't bother her too much we could try doggie sunglasses. She seems to be fine with it. The next time you take her to the vet ask him/her to check her eyes for you. Guest Rhea
I'm surprised that whippets/greys aren't more popular in Japan. They are fantastic apartment dogs, after all, and very quiet. Though I suppose they have their own, domestic breeds that are popular over there. I wonder if IGies are popular in Japan?

gryhndsr4us
Welcome back. I loved living in Japan. I'm sure a greyhound is a big hit there! I lived there twice. In Sasebo as a child, then stationed at Kami Seya as an adult. EllenEveBaz
Welcome to you and Astrid. No experience on serious eye problems, just regular old-age changes so far. Astrid sounds like a greyt ambassadog. heartdogs
Welcome back. I seem to remember when you were going over there. No help on the eye issue except to say ask the vets & maybe get her some doggels. We need pictures of her.
Guest Momlinda
Thanks all. Kolaric 1, my husband is a high school teacher at Camp Zama and we live in the Sagamihara Family Housing Area. We are about 35 km SW of Tokyo. Rhea, IGs are VERY popular here. I have a Japanese friend from Facebook who actually lives within walking distance. She has one IG and has introduced me to many other IG parents. And just as many with greyts, most IG owners have more than one! The Shiba Inus are numerous here, but so are Corgis, Mini Dachshunds, apricot color Mini Poodles, and some Chihuahuas. As for her eyes, the base vet noticed the dilation and said it didn't seem to seem to bother her. She does squint in the sun and I have been looking into doggles for her. We have stairs here and she is a bit hesitant about them if it is dark. She walks slowly up or down when it is dark, but flies up and down when it is light! So I guess she still sees fairly well. I wish I could have a houseful of greyhounds as many of you do! But unfortunately, we are limited living in base housing. But that just means I will love on my one baby more! Thanks again everyone. Love being on this forum.

I plan to go to Japan to see him...if the distance is correct that I found, you actually aren't that far from him. greyhoundlov
Could it be pannus? My blue girl had it even though it is most common in German shepherds.
