Charlies_Dad
Well the big oaf has done it again and hurt his same rear leg. We believe (and hope) it's one of his toes as yesterday one appeared swollen and 'pinkish'. We gave him some Metacam to help with the pain as after he laid for a while, he would get up and limp badly. Vet appointment is scheduled for 1:45pm today and we'll do x-rays unless it's something obvious. We do have those Honey Locust trees out front of our house here in Maine and it's possible he got a thorn in his foot as he went crazy yesterday and we try to remove any branches that fall into the fenced area but some get away from us. Charlies_Dad
So we are back from the vets. The vet agreed that it looks like his toe is the issue as it's swollen and bigger than it normally is even though it is his 'franken toe'. We opted for an x-ray and as soon as he calls us into the x-ray room, the first thing out of his mouth was cancer....Lynn's eyes popped out and I was like what the #@*&$! He then clarified himself and stated, "I do not see bone cancer". Wholly jeez louise talk about scaring us both to death. After coming down off the ceiling we discussed other possibilities that includes a soft tissue cancer (still not liking the discussion) and then we got into possible infection or simply he injured it while doing zoomies. We also opted for a tick snap test just in case and it came out negative and his temperature is slightly elevated. After further discussions based on the fact that toe has always been larger than all the rest, the fact that he just did crazy zoomies yesterday and that he is not limping as bad today, we are thinking/hoping it's just an injury. It happens to be the same toe he hurt when he fell down our basement stairs the very first day we had him so a lot points to just that, an injury. We will monitor over the next couple days have give him Metacam. Thanks for the good thoughts and let's hope it's nothing serious. It might just be best to get rid of the source of injury once and for all. Yeah we have thought about an amp but wanted to see whether it would heal first. My concern is that it's a 'middle' toe as we did have to get one amputated for Jack but that was on the outside. Took a few weeks to heal and it was painful for a while. Amp will be the route we go if we cannot see some progress. Guest greytkidsmom
Glad there isn't any badness in the x-rays. I second the traumeel. Gel works better than cream - it penetrates the fur well. They also have a product called zeel which is formulated for arthritis. Tiel has an arthritic toe and her walking has improved a little with regular use of the tablets. Wonder if shoes would help protect Stewie's toe? We are looking into the idea for Tiel.
