Please Keep Sammy In Your Thoughts

Recommended Posts

Sammy, my sweet and happy chow hound, has been "off" since last evening. Normally, he almost knocks me over for food, but he has been barely interested. He eats, but without gusto. When I have started to get ready to take him for a walk each time since last night, he's just laid on the dog bed or in the crate until I call him to come to me -- usually he is running through the house like "oh boy, we're going out!!!". He hasn't gotten into trash or anything that I can find. He hasn't had any food or treats outside of his usual stuff. He hasn't thrown up. I gave him some Pepcid (with vet approval) to see if he has a bit of sour stomach. He is peeing fine and pooping pretty normally for him (we have been battling hookworms since I adopted him). The term I used with the vet is "muted", he's just sort of muted. He hasn't played with his toys since yesterday morning. I want my happy and bouncy boy back.

I took him to the vet today. She couldn't find anything wrong, heart and lungs sounded good, orthopedic was good, no tenderness in the belly. She did bloodwork and a tick panel and I should have at least some of the results tomorrow.

Please think good thoughts for my boy.

Thanks for reading.

And, because I know the rules, here is a picture of him playing with toys from a few weeks ago:

Thinking good thoughts for your baby. Here's something I found on dog headaches like Xtrawld suggested:

• Symptoms like rubbing their head against furniture or on your body hoping for relief of this invasion in their head.
• Total avoidance of people and loud noises which only make their head pound more.
• Not interested in playing and only wanting to be left alone.
• Squinting with their eyes to avoid sunlight which worsens their pain.
• Seeking out cool places to rest their head upon.
• Not very enthusiastic about eating their meals (putting their head down to feed from their bowl can cause that throbbing)

Thanks for the kind thoughts. All his labs came back with no abnormalities. If he is still "off" on Monday, we're going to try an x-ray and ultrasound, plus a urinalysis, even though he has no signs of a UTI.

Thanks for all the kind words and good thoughts. Sammy is back to about 90% of normal. I'm assuming he was able to grab something on one of our night time walks -- I watch him like a hawk, but sometimes it's so dark out. Anyhow, it looks like my boy is on his way back!!
