JustSnoozing
I was reading the recent toe threads in this forum and was relieved that neither of mine had damaged their toes, but then the inevitable happened... Dippy dislocated an outside toe on her front left foot whilst zooming round the garden. She screamed the GSOD, but I popped the toe back and immediately it was as if nothing had happened. No need for a quick trip to the vet, but I'm now wondering what next? Do I just leave things as they are and hope it doesn't dislocate again? I'll have to lead walk her for a while (a few weeks) so that she can't do zoomies outside, but not sure how to stop her inside! I'll speak to the vet - she's due her annual check this week - to see what they suggest too. Quote Dippy (Dinky Dipstick) and Velvet (Redbrick Velvet). Batmom
For a single incident, if there's no swelling or tenderness, I'd probably just try to keep her calm for 3-4 days. If she does it again on same toe AND there's little or no swelling or tenderness, I'd consider a supporting wrap for a week or 10 days, then leash walk for another 2 weeks. If she keeps doing it and there's a lot of swelling, tenderness, etc. that doesn't go away in a day or two, then I might consider taking the toe off. I've never had to do that but some folks have. Good luck! JustSnoozing
Thanks for the advice. No swelling or pain at the moment but I'll monitor and follow the wrap route as you suggested, if it happens again. Fortunately it's so hot at the moment that she is spending a lot of time horizontal and doesn't want to be very active.. Quote Dippy (Dinky Dipstick) and Velvet (Redbrick Velvet).
