Fiona July Update

Recommended Posts

We received the biopsy results of her spleen after its removal and it showed a Fibrosarcoma of high grade (not what we were hoping for). This morning we had our consultation with the oncologist. Fiona received her first chemo treatment and is scheduled for 5 more, 3 weeks apart. His prognosis for her is 6-8 months, depending on whether or not the cancer spread before removal of the spleen. As we still don't have the biopsy report for her kidneys, there are more concerns that have to be sorted out.

On the plus side, her blood pressure medication has been working and even under stress this morning, her reading was on the low side. We'll be adjusting the medication accordingly.

Fiona has been acting content, happy and totally back to her normal sweet self. I'm not sure whether or not we'll see the side affects of the treatment but we have been given medication to get her through it.

Please keep her in your thoughts as we travel down this road.

I'm so sorry about the diagnosis you received for Fiona. What chemotherapy regimen will she be on? Bruiser was on doxorubicin for HSA and overall did pretty well on it. I hope you have many good months with your girl.

It's good to hear that Bruiser did well on this medication as it is the one the oncologist is using. With the 4th dose, she will be given an ultra-sound and repeat x-rays. Although we caught this early, it's impossible to tell if it had already spread. She will be 12 in August so we are hoping to have her with us for many months to come.

Mary I didn't know Fiona was ill! You and Fiona are in our thoughts and prayers as you walk this road. Today is not the day.

Thanks Nancy. Today is not the day for Fiona. How these simple words have come to mean so much to us in the last few years. With the treatment, we are hoping to have many wonderful moments with our little fawn girl.

Yes they certainly have. Fiona knows nothing about 6 - 8 months. She just knows she is happy to be with her family every day.

Have they xrayed the liver too? My Pearl had fibrosarcoma of the spleen. We had it removed. But it grew so fast in the liver we didn't even have a chance to do chemo.

I'm sorry Pearl had to go through this. Fiona had X-rays taken the day before the surgery which were clear. The oncologist has planned on taking more x-rays on the day of her fourth chemo. She'll also have an ultra-sound done as well. He did mention that the liver and lungs were at risk from this type of splenic sarcoma. His plan is to monitor her closely to be aware of any changes as we go through the treatment.

Thank you all for your good thoughts for our girl. She is such a sweetheart.

Not the news we were hoping for, but I hope she does well with the chemo and it gives her lots of quality time. :hope:grouphug

More good thoughts for Fiona. I am sorry to read of the dx and hope the chemo helps. We used doxorubicin for Charlie with his Osteo and overall he did fine on it. A little tired after the 4th and 5th rounds but he pulled through. It did put him off bananas though and this was one of his favourite foods. He soon got back to liking them again once the chemo was over.

Fiona likes bananas too. It will be interesting to see how she reacts throughout the treatment and how her appetite is affected. She seems a little "off" today but I'm not sure if I am reading too much into it. They said the affects would start on days 2-5 after the chemo.

It is good to hear that Charlie did fine on the doxorubicin. I'm glad he enjoyed the bananas again when the chemo was over.
