Guest blueberri
Hiya! We have Willow (her former name was very undignified, so we renamed her) as a foster-to-adopt, and we adore the hell out of her. Serious cat-focus, which unfortunately our scaredy cat stirred up in a dog that was fine in the cattery! Aaaanyway. Gorgeous Willow has been with us a week. From the beginning we have fed her and Sparky at the same time, but giving some distance between then so that the black hoover doesn't pressure her out of her food, as she's quite dainty at her eating. The thing that puzzles me is that when she's finished she goes over to Sparky's dish to check it out (while he does likewise), and then pees in/on the dish, and then of course Sparky pees over the top. Tonight she even peed on her own dish. What on earth is this behaviour about????
JAJ2010
LOL I have no idea! But it's hysterical! Hoping they are fed outside? Maybe it's a marking the food dish thing? Quote ------ Jessica
Houndtime
I think it is a dominence issue. Our second greyhound, John E, would pee in Brandy's dish. It didn't last very long. I hope you are telling her NO! Tallgreydogmom
I think it is a marking issue. We have had them do this. It's funny with a little girl. She doesn't want anyone else to eat out of her food dish. She is marking her food dish. She should get over it. Do you have a crate to feed her in? She might feel more at ease knowing for sure that it was her dish. Edited July 5, 2013 by Tallgreydogmom Quote Then God sent the Greyhound to live among man and remember. And when the Day comes, God will call the Greyhound to give Testament, and God will pass judgment on man. (Persian Proverb)
Batmom
Not dominance. Just scent marking. You can try taking the dogs out to get empty shortly before feeding and/or watching like a hawk and taking out right after feeding. Finnsliz
Wink used to do this to the water bowl when we used to go to the dog park. I always thought she was marking it as "MINE". Fruitycake
It sounds like territorial marking, though in a really yucky area! Can you feed them on leash and immediately after eating take them out until they pee outside? With suitable party and treats, of course. I hope the dishes are in an easy to clean area. Ewww. PatricksMom
Henry did this once with Murphy's dish when Murphy first arrived. At least he had perfect aim and it was easy to clean up. Hopefully your girl will stop this on her own soon. Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). kamsmom
It's not territorial or dominance. It's just one of those "quirks". Just like some people are weird, so are dogs Steak was the least dominant of any dog I knew. When he finished eating he took great pleasure in running to the girls bowls and peeing in them. He had great aim too, they were raised and he never missed . Eventually he stopped doing this. Now we have Dare, and just recently he started doing this. The only difference is that he is doing it in Blu's bowl. Both males and both great friends. I like to think they are just being little boys and they think it's hysterical. We now stand right beside Dare as he eats and as soon as he is finished I grab his collar and escort him right out the back door. Guest blueberri
Thankfully, yes they are fed outside, so it's simply a matter of hosing down the deck. This morning she pulled the heart (raw fed) out of her dish and wanted to bring it inside, again not unusual, but I stopped her. When she had finished her brekkie, she returned to the spot where she'd dropped the heart, and peed on that spot. Such a cute little weirdo!
