Guest dwolfe711 Posted May 28, 2013 Share Posted May 28, 2013 I know some of you don't do Facebook so I will reprint my posts from there of last night and this morning - Our little Ellie is not doing well - she turned 14 on April 8. She still has her spunk but her body is failing. Her rearend problems have become so bad she can barely walk - and this weekend she has not always wanted to eat - a definite sign she no longer has quality of life. She is my baby - came to us as a 7.5yo return, adopted by her first family at 3 months old - her normal weight is between 42 and 45 pounds - she never raced - she was a lab in a greyhound body - a little spitfire that earned her the nickname of Monkey because she would run back the hallway - jump on the bed - jump off the bed - run out the hallway - turn around and do it all over again! She had endless energy and was never a typical greyhound personality. Her antics slowed over the years but she refuses to give up - one day she can hardly walk but then "runs" across the yard at her own pace to cover her sister Mercedes' pee!! She's still in charge even as her body continues to let her down. Her Aunt Liz gave her the nickname Ellie Bean - which in the past few months I've turned into "beanie" - whatever you call her - she knows her names! She is a smart girl and she always knows what's going on. I am afraid she is not going to go easily - I think her will to live will be strong to the end. But we will do what we have to do and have done 7 other times - it never gets any easier. Not sure of exactly when but I would say we're down to days. These two pics are from Christmas 2012 and Fall Dewey 2012. 4/8/1999 - 5/28/2013 Ellie Bean "Monkey" Wolfe is at the Rainbow Bridge. She didn't eat her dinner last night except for a few chunks I hand-fed her. During the night when she wanted to go out Daddy put her up on her feet and her legs all buckled - yesterday she was wandering around Aunt Liz and Uncle Doug's yard - although she took a few unplanned falls onto the grass. Her usual warning barks to "don't touch me" sounded more like weak pleas to "help me" this morning. We were at the vet's when they opened and she was gone with one big sigh around 9am. Her eyes were still bright but the spunk was gone out of them - she needed for us to let her go - so we did - very unwillingly. Run free little monkey and jump on as many beds as you can find at the Bridge - we know you missed that play time most of all when those silly legs started getting weak. Toby, Elaine, Red, Lizzy, Duncan, Allie and Apollo will show you the ropes - and then you can take over as alpha in charge!! Take care of those pieces of our hearts you took with you!
