My Beautiful Yukon Chelsa Has Been Gone A Year Today...

A year ago today, my beautiful greyhound girl, Yukon Chelsa, told me that it was time; she was ready to collect her richly deserved angel wings and go to be with God and those who had gone before her. It has been a very hard year for me; I have shed far too many tears... Tears of sadness, frustration, uncertainty; and she has been here with me; her velvety, graceful, dainty presence that has always hidden a core of the hardest steel. This morning I got up and wanted to make something to tuck away under my shirt, a medallion to help me remember to be strong, in her honor. I cut out a brass oval; stamped it with the phrase that reminds me of our unbreakable bond, "Love Never Dies", and then I made a twisted copper rope border to frame it and her initials in copper wire "script" to fuse to the back. I took all the components out to my garage and set down at my workbench to solder the parts together. I was attaching the rope border and got a little too much heat from the torch, and burned a hole right thru the piece. Well, crap... In frustration I tossed it in a crucible and started to melt it. Something happened that was very, very cool, and most definately a sign from my girl. The letters that I had stamped burned through and became backlit, illuminating the phrase "Love Never Dies" in bright flame. It lasted only a brief second or two until the brass and copper became a molten puddle; but it was clear and beautiful and so perfectly Chelsa.
Today I am celebrating the life and the love we shared; knowing that nothing, not time, not the distance between us, not even death can take you from me... Love Never Dies...

"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are." -- Unknown

I can't believe it's already a year. She is the most stunning senior fawn I've ever seen!

Thank you so much... She was a beautiful girl; but I think what set her apart for me was that so much of her beauty came shining thru from the inside, in the form of confidence, pride, heart, lust for life, and love. Nonnie and Jewels are a part of her legacy; my Frankie and Iberia at the bridge, they are all intertwined and bound together by a small dainty girl in a red velvet coat. She danced into our lives by fate but anchored herself there with a foundation so strong that no storm of any kind will ever shake.
