Yesterday, Cinder and I went for a 2 mile hike in a mostly snow covered woods yesterday. Today her front wrist is swollen. She's not limping but seemed less enthusiastic about going for a walk today. Guest Alichou Posted March 17, 2013 Share Posted March 17, 2013 Remember, the cold sometimes can cause their limbs to be sore, especially if they are not wearing boots. Their skin is so thin and the bones very prominent. Try a heating pad or hot water bottle to see if that helps. There is a good chance it's just been over exhausted or she's sprained it. AKennelFull Posted March 18, 2013 Share Posted March 18, 2013 Just throwing this out as a possibility. If you look at Cinder's race lines there is a gap from Jan 2007 to Aug 2007. She might have had an injury and was worked back. Sometimes those old injuries flair up and cause some limping. My dog Harry had a stopper bone injury and he will sometimes limp on his front leg and it will also swell up. I just reduce his activity level and in a few days he is fine. Guest MorganKonaAlex Posted March 19, 2013 Share Posted March 19, 2013 The swelling had lessened by this morning but wasn't gone. I called the Vet and took her in this afternoon. As we're waiting for the appointment, the vet tech said they needed to take another sample of blood as there was a problem with the lab machine when they were processing the one from Saturday. Cinder had her annual Saturday morning. That's when it finally dawned on me that they took blood and maybe that's what caused the edema. Doh! The Vet examined her and didn't find an injury. She's only had one other case of a blood draw causing edema but it's possible. We're waiting and watching and treating with aspirin. It's still a little swollen. I am not a vet but in my experience with lameness (had all kinds of non fatal lameness issue with my greys over the years) it tends to be somewhat less serious when it's acute, such as an injury. With osteo is starts off kind of slowly and gradually the lameness increases. So hopefully your girl's lameness is due to something not too serious.
