Spent The Night In Emergency..

So Neko had an abdominal ultrasound today because they were looking for a few different possible avenues that could cause non-regenerative anemia. they did not find anything to do with his anemia but they did find that his duodenum of his small intestine looked opaque on ultrasound and could be the cause of the chronic soft stool/diarrhea that he has. (we will do a biopsy once we figure out the anemia/bleeding issue) they decided not to do a mucosal bleeding time test because last time it took him 8 hours to clot..

So, no new information on the anemia/bleeding.. I got Dr, Linda Blythe involved (she is the greyhound specialist at Oregon State) and she is going to look at neko's case as well. Right now we are twiddling our thumbs waiting for von willebrands to come back..

thursday he is going in again to get another CBC run to check his platelets again and make sure hes stable. He they will also check to see if his anemia is regenerative (they want to check one more time to make sure because we REALLY want it to be regenerative) and check his cobalamin levels to see if his small intestine is absorbing nutrients properly.

Gosh, what a nightmare for you two! Hope you both have a good night, and glad at least that he can be home with you.

In my mind there would have to be a life-or-death reason to do a biopsy of any kind until the cause of the bleeding is identified. I had one with von Willebrand's although it didn't rear it's ugly head until the end. Sending prayers for your handsome guy and hugs of comfort for you.

The reason for a bone biopsy is so they can rule out bone marrow suppression--diagnosing cancer etc. One of mine had a bone marrow bx @ Ohio State-really wasn't a big deal.

Just dropped my baby off at OSU this morning.. theyll be checking to see if his anemia is regenerative (in case we checked too early before) and doing a CBC to make sure he is stable and does not need a transfusion again.. his gums were pretty pale again this morning :(. They will also be checking his cobalamin levels to see if his small intestine is functioning properly and is absorbing b12 like it should (cobalamin defficiency may be contributing to the non regenerative anemia but still does not explain the random bleeding out) im hoping for an update soon today... and im really hoping for good news :(

Just picked him up, good news is hes stable (PCV 19%) but the bad news is he's still non regenerative. His von willebrands test came back at 71(low normal, the low end of normal is 70) so it may be contributing but its not the cause.

Next step is a bone marrow biopsy to figure out exactly what is wrong with his red blood cells/platelets...

I was really hoping for better news today :(

Good that he is stable so far but I too was hoping for better news. Continued prayers for your boy.
