Shirley44
Miles didn't have this yesterday What could it be ? Just got back from the vet with Miles. The abcès is back and it really looks bad in his mouth. 10 days antibiotic and schedule for Febuary 28, to get the tooth pulled out. I also told her to check if he had any others that look bad to pull them out also He is eating good, he actually took a 1 pound since October Edited February 8, 2013 by Shirley44 Quote Miles October 4 2002-Novembre 19 2013 Mommy loves you big boy Tatum December 1 2004-January 23 2015 Love you Miss SiSi Bums Rowdy October 26 2001 -November 5 2015 Miss you Bébé Lou

ZoomDoggy
Looks like a dental abscess. Time to go to the vet. Probably antibiotics first, followed by a dental and probable extraction. Poor guy. Sambuca
He definitely needs a vet visit. But, Sailor had swelling on his muzzle at one point and the vet could not find anything wrong at all. It went away after a few days.
schultzlc
Poor guy. I would also guess an abscess, and if not that, perhaps some sort of bug bite. I hope he gets better soon! fourofem
Hitchie looked exactly like that a few years back...it wasn't a tooth but the best the vet could tell was he tried to lay down or come through the dog door with a stick in his mouth and somehow poked the inside of his mouth. It happened in the dead of winter so a bug or spider bite was ruled out. A dose of antibiotics took care of it in no time. kronckew
have you rubbed/felt the area? is it tender? sometimes a chunk of kibble or dog biscuit can get stuck in the cheek pouch back by the molars. you can feel it move when you rub the area & can push it forward & out with your fingers from outside. if it's tender, or immoveable it's vet time. feel for any swollen glands in the neck area.... tbhounds
Holy cow-I can only assume he's a tough guy and is just dealing with the pain. If my face was swollen like that from an abscess I would be reaching for something. Dogs (and especially cats) hide there discomfort well--they just deal with it until they can't anymore. Obviously, we can't ask them so we equate them to ourselves. If your vet is hesitant to dispense a NSAID perhaps he/she would be ok dispensing Tramadol?? Shirley44
The swelling is down some. 24 hours on the antibiotics. I figure in another 24 hours the swelling will be gone. We gave them spagetti with cheese for supper, and after he had that he went to eating kibbles.
