Guest RMarie
Does anyone have any experience using Comboguard to treat heartworms? Heartgard gives James diarrhea; last time, it lasted for a couple of days, not just 24 hours, so I'd rather find something else to give him, particularly since we just got his bowels settled. My vet said they just got in a shipment of Comboguard, which is apparently similar to Sentinel. Both contain milbemycin oxime, but Comboguard also uses spinosad, where as Sentinel uses Lufenuron. JJNg
I'd never heard of Comboguard, but after doing a little research, it looks like it is the equivalent of Trifexis that is made by the same company but packaged specifically for VCA veterinary hospitals. There has been a lot of discussion about Trifexis, so you might want to try doing a search for previous posts. It's a great product for heartworms, intestinal parasites, and fleas. Guest RMarie
In case anyone else is interested, I gave Comboguard to James last night a little before dinner. It was a big tablet, so I crushed it up and mixed it with peanut butter and let him lick it off my hand and a spoon. He woke up at 4:00 a.m. with diarrhea; not what I was hoping for, but not completely surprised, either. BUT, on the bright side, he only had the one big D and has been fine the rest of the day. Guest RMarie
Guess I spoke too soon. Since 2 a.m. this morning, James has gone out twice with diarrhea.
macoduck
The Trifexis pills are large too. I cut them in half and give them over the course of 30 minutes. My greys do fine with it but my mutt will get an upset tummy. I think all of them have soft poop for a day afterward - but not diarrhea.
