Thanks so much everyone for all your well wishes. I'm going nuts waiting until next week for the pathology report about the melanoma. Meanwhile, I've been looking into artemisinin and curcurmin, and wondering if I should just start giving them or wait for the report.

The artemisinin and curcurmin will not hurt anything. Not sure whether you have visited the Yahoo group on artemisinin yet so one thing that is recommended is you cycle it. I believe we had Charlie 7 days on, 3 days off....if I am remembering correctly. I don't know there is any one 'right' cycle but it is recommended.

Kyle with Stewie ('Super C Ledoux, Super C Sampson x Sing It Blondie) and forever missing my three angels, Jack ('Roy Jack', Greys Flambeau x Miss Cobblepot) and Charlie ('CTR Midas Touch', Leo's Midas x Hallo Argentina) and Shelby ('Shari's Hooty', Flying Viper x Shari Carusi) running free across the bridge.

Thanks so much for the information! I will visit the Yahoo group. I have curcurmin on hand, might start with that. The more images of malignant melanomas I see (google image searching) the more concerned I get about Zariel.

Just wanted to follow up.

Just talked with the vet and the pathology report is in. It was a malignant melanoma. Report says that margins were clean, and the X-ray of his lungs and chest was clean. According to the vet, that's the end of the story. I asked if she would send me the reports so I could submit a consult request to OSU, just to be sure if they might recommend some other kind of prevantative treatment for malignant melanomas that have been removed. She said she knows the GHAW site, and she would submit the request. Guess it will be a few more days before I hear anything back.

:( I know what you mean. Everything always happens in the same time frame. I just went through a period of time when I believed I was singlehandedly funding our vet's office. Within six months, we had Henry's tail amputation, two cats pass away, weekly bandage changes for Truman's happy tail, and now Henry's seizures. Thoughts and prayers for you and your fur-kids.

P.S. I'm not usually a big fan of the "premium" foods, but my trainer exclusively adopts diabetic cats and had awesome results feeding Orijen.

Good idea to follow up with OSU, but I'm going to take this as good news. I hope Zariel heals quickly and completely. :grouphug

Thanks everyone for your good thoughts for my babies.

Another follow-up:

The vet just called, she consulted with OSU GHAW. For malignant dermal melanoma that was removed with clean margins, they recommend an abdominal ultrasound in addition to chest X-ray. As long as both are clear, then they don't recommend further treatment. There is approximately 10% chance of recurrence of malignant melanoma at the site. They recommend close inspection of that site, and the whole dog, to observe any suspicious skin changes. Hopefully we will be able to schedule the US for next week, for when Zariel gets his stiches out. All in all, the news is very good :)
