I'm so very sorry that you all had to experience this. I too have a neighbor (don't we all), with an uncontrolled dog. After a long conversation with Animal Control, I now have my cell phone camera prepared each time we pass their house. She explained that they can't prosecute without some proof and we haven't actually had a physical encounter thankfully. I also only have one ID tag on the dogs to minimize alerting neighbors (a quiet spot works well too) and I carry a length of PVC.

I sure do hope you can get the vet bills covered by them - at the very least, they should be obligated to cover that.

Best of luck to get past the horror of being attacked - try to keep a positive approach to the walks and to keep them fun, although that's pretty tough when you get ambushed.
