Tallgreydogmom
Does anyone else have a greyhound with a prosthetic? Vallery had a racing injury in 2007. Her foot was amputed below the ankle. She had a litter of pups and was released to adoption in December 2011. I picked her up and took her to Ohio State for an evaluation. The bone density in the leg missing the foot was so poor Dr Dyce would not even recommend amputation. It was decided to try a prosthetic to build up the bone density. If you notice the skip, it is on her good leg. That is how she had been walking for 4 years. She is using the prosthetic and we are excited to see her x-rays and bone density the next time I go up to Ohio State. I was wondering if anyone else has a greyhound with a prothetic. Guest goofydog
It was great meeting you and Vallery at Mt Hounds! Seeing her with and without her 'foot' was very enlightening. She definitely is a well and truly loved hound.

Guest Liz_in_PA
that's pretty cool. Can you get a sense from her about what she feels? Does she come looking for it in the morning? Does she like it off in the evening? How did she first take to it?

Tallgreydogmom
that's pretty cool. Can you get a sense from her about what she feels? Does she come looking for it in the morning? Does she like it off in the evening? How did she first take to it? I think she likes her prosthetic. She doesn't fall as much now. She balances better when she potties. She looks for her "foot" when I get the lead out for a walk. Sometimes when I take it off, she looks at me as if to say "what are you doing". tbhounds
Just want to mention that OrthoPets makes braces for pets too. Great for hounds with hock injuries or hocks that need a bit of help after cast removal/surgery or for hounds that were not able to have corrective surgery.
