Guest VinnyL
Hi everyone,my name is Vinny (Denise's husband) she suggested I join need some help, first absolutely love our Greyhound thyme she has been great and we are looking at a boy Saturday, I get nervous I'm not handling things right she walks great in the day nighttime is different she won't go the same direction at night as daytime she stops now she has to go take care of business should I persuade her or just return home and try again, I just want to handle this right I don't want to scare her need some guidance thanks Vinny
TheFullHouse
First thing to remember, she walks the direction you want her too. If she's at all food motivated, take a few little treats along, when she stops and won't go further, tempt her with a treat, if she starts walking again, give her the treat and tell her she's a good girl. She doesn't get to make the decisions, you do. Once she's done her business, take her back inside. Right now she's just trying to adjust to a completely new life style and is looking for you to guide her. Always praise the good things she does and even reward her for doing as she's asked. You guys will do just fine. Just be patient with her, take your time and you'll be fine. Guest PhillyPups
You are in Philly right? She went from a farm to the track in Daytona, then she went to the kennel, which is secluded and basically noise proof except for the barking dogs she is used ot hearing. Thyme never heard the "city" noises she is exposed to in Philly. Add to that all the fireworks going on the last week, and yeah, she may be a little scared until she is used to the noises, moreso at night when her vision is not as clear. When I first moved to the city, some sounds freaked my hounds out (subway on Broad if we were walking down Broad, sirens, helicopters patrolling, etc.). In time they all got used to the noises.
