Vaginal Discharge

Recommended Posts

So when I got home from work today I noticed a trail of clear mucousy discharge hanging from Violet's vagina. It was probably about 3-4" long, but by the time I grabbed a kleenex out of the bathroom to investigate further, she had noticed it and I assume licked it away. I haven't noticed discharge before and like I said it was clear, but it was quite the trail. :unsure Thoughts on whether she needs to see the vet or if I should watch and wait?

I would say she's always licked herself a bit more than I thought was normal, but I've had her since July and she has no other symptoms of a UTI or infection - no excessive drinking, never accidents in the house, etc. She's had blood work in the past couple of months and that was normal.

If I do take her in, what do we start with? Vaginal culture of some sort, U/A, sterile urine culture?

FWIW, Jessie's now chronic discharge is from her tail glands, even though it often hangs from her vulva.

I would watch for a few days but, I would also clean her daily with some mild soap and water - it could just be some irritation and it will go away by itself. Watch for tinges of pink/red when you wash her as it would be a sign of blood.

You might also pick up some cranberry pills and give one a day to make sure any bacteria has a harder time establishing itself.

Yeah, I was hoping it would stay at the top for a while just for her. :lol

Well, I can at least report that there has been no additional (noticeable) discharge since I first posted. I do think she's drinking more water than usual, but it's also been highs in the 70's or even 80 so I think the water drinking is just that. I'll keep an eye on things though.
