krissn333
So, I was finally able to get Skimmie in to our new vet to try to sort out his pee issues. We took a urine sample (which magically yesterday was yellow...when he tanks on water and pees on my floor it's clear like water). UA came back, we did see some struvite crystals. Nothing else was of any concern though...SG was just fine, he's concentrating well. We did notice some discharge from his little hoo-hoo though - she got some on a slide and had a look at it - lots of rod bacteria. So he's on Simplicef right now for that. We ran some bloodwork including a T4 and it came back pretty low (6.0 I think). We decided to send a full thyroid panel off to get a better picture. Over the past few months he has lost weight and his hair has become even more sparse than it already was...a thyroid issue would explain a lot of this. His big bat-like (but paper-thin) ears have taken a beating - when he shakes, it's a very hard shake. He cracked his ears open when he shook while wearing his martingale collar and there was blood spattering everywhere (ears smacked on the hardware I think). I've been applying New Skin to his ears to help them heal. Poor little bug. This just confirms that I need to order Wiggles, Wags, and Whiskers harnesses for him and for Sage. So, for now it looks like we're dealing with a little bit of a sheath infection, but we'll be exploring further if antibiotics don't clear things up for him. I'm anxiously awaiting the thyroid test results...should be around the middle of next week when I get some answers. krissn333
Houston, we have a thyroid issue! We'll be starting supplementation tomorrow. Antibiotics seem to be helping a little bit. Still drinking a bit more than normal. But IIRC a thyroid issue can cause excessive water consumption too.
