Guest NQ3X Posted January 24, 2012 Share Posted January 24, 2012 Today we bid farewell to our Old Man, Sebastian Aloysius Symington Smythe, (race name: Blantyre; earmark: 57C-65444), whelped 7 May 1997 by Greys Fifth Gear out of Lutharia. He was damn near 15 years old, a lovely, loving hound who chattered like a wooden box full of castanets falling down a stairwell. His health failing, unable to rise on his own or walk more than a few steps, it was time for him to run free. Below is a photo from four or five years ago. Requiescat in pace, Your Majesty. There was nothing - NOTHING - blade-like about him; he was indubitably not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Clever in his own way, of course, and as manipulative as they come, but "Blade"? Nope. He never even answered to "Blade". So we cast about for names that fit him better. He had an overbite, and when he perked up his ears went out in a hysterical way; he reminded us of nothing more than one of Bertie Wooster's fellow Drones Club members (from the P G Wodehouse canon). We ran a bunch of names through the Wodehouse filter, as well as some old Avengers characters, and then it hit me: When I was born, my mother's younger sister tried to talk my parents into naming me Sebastian Aloysius. Wow, 15 yrs old what a wonderful age he made it to, though I know that doesn't make his leaving any easier.
