Tramadol Dosage

Norm fell saturday and ripped a toenail off. He's on a daily dose of deramaxx and tramadol. How much tramadol can I give him? He's really hurting.

Tramadol 2-4mg/kg (1-2mg/lb) given anywhere from twice daily to as much as 4 times, daily, depending on need

 

For a 75-lb greyhound, you could give up to 75mg (1-1/2 tabs). I'll often give a smaller dose until I know how they respond to it.

What does your vet say? We gave Faye Oops 100mg 2x/day for osteo.

Desi is 80 lb, and when his feet are really bothering him, he takes #2 50mg tabs at a time, and has been known to have

that dose 3 times in one day.

 

Some hounds don't do well with Tramadol, but Des does fine.

Gabe has Osteo, and he gets 100 mg twice a day but has been up to three 150 mg doses on his worst days (on top of other meds, including Deramaxx). He's about 83-84 pounds, though.

 

It hasn't really seemed to affect him, but I've heard that Tramadol can make some dogs really restless.

He is currently on 50 twice a day. The rx says I can give 50 up to 3x a day. But I'd like him to have a little extra now. It's now that he's limping.

Depending on his pain level, you could start with it twice daily, and if necessary increase in frequency, The dose itelf can also go up, as it's 1-2mg/lb. -- the 75mg would be 1mg/lb for a 75 lb dog.

 

But since he's also getting some coverage with an NSAID, I might be tempted to try a smaller dose to see if it will do the job. Dandi usually got relief of hi back pain with just 25mg but if he were having a rough time I'd go for 50. He gets fairly gorked on the 50mg, though. That's why I might start with a small dose (25-50) to see how he tolerated it.

He's limping so badly with this one. And the snow isn't helping him. God it just breaks my heart.
