Guest NancyS
I happened to be talking to a dog trainer and breeder yesterday (not greys). I mentioned about Tipper's motion sickness. She told me that a lot of owners have that problem when taking dogs to competitions. They use over the counter BONINE. Funny thing is I use this for myself on long trips. It does not make you drowsy at all. Wondering is any one here has ever heard of this used for greys? Sounds so logical but I am a little nervous self medicating my grey. Guest NancyS
I would try something natural like ginger first. Sorry, I've done the ginger already with minimal results. I already signed up for Greyhounds in Gettysburg so I have time to try other remedies before setting out on this 4 hours journey.
JAJ2010
I've always just used Dramamine with Sunshine. I actually think her issue is anxiety related. For the past 1.5yrs she's been 100% ok in the car accept for our trip to GIG last year. Driving by DC had me all in an anxious tizzy. I actually lost feeling in my arms. As long as I'm calm and relaxed she travels fine And yes I love the 1863 hotel's washers! Some rescue remedy might help also. Or maybe even try crating in the car so it's less scary? Guest BrianRke
If its really bad, you may want to also consider Ace Promazine. Besides being a tranquilizer, it also works great for motion sickness. If you do go that direction, I would only use a half dose. The use of Ace is a controversial subject here on GT. I think under certain circumstances and used correctly, it can be a benefit to SOME dogs.

I don't think it's anxiety or fear - Tipper is such an agreeable hound. I really believe she just gets motion sickness. Going for 45 minute drive today to play with some grey friends. I just gave her 1/2 of a bonine. Keep your fingers crossed. I did pack some paper towels, etc just in case I have to clean up a mess! JAJ2010
Sunshine never acts fearful in the car. It's one of her safe places... She's just nervous out in the scary world! *fingers crossed for no tossed cookies* Quote ------ Jessica

She's just nervous out in the scary world! *fingers crossed for no tossed cookies* Well, I decided to try 1/2 of a bonine tab - it worked just great. Tipper was fine in the car and during playtime. Also no problems on the trip home. Think I'll stick with the 1/2 bonine. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
