Guest Samm88
Hi Guys! So my greyhound Kamm took a flying leap onto our deck tonight, which has 2 inches of ice on it. You can imagine the legs going everywhere. He had a good sized surface scratch on his leg. Again, being the new owner I am, would like to know how some of you guys dress these kinds of wounds. I know greyhound are prone to them. Thanks!
Trihounds
If it is just superficial, the most I would do is an antibiotic cleaning spray and likely just one time. Light scratches heal on their own quite quickly. Welcome to GT! TheFullHouse
I'd just clean it good, put some antibiotic cream like neosporin on it. It should heal pretty quickly. Guest Samm88
May be a dumb question, but what is the difference between polysporin and neosporin? Could I use polysporin on it? Thanks so much for the help guys!
Time4ANap
May be a dumb question, but what is the difference between polysporin and neosporin? Could I use polysporin on it? Thanks so much for the help guys! Info from Answer.com Neosporin is an antibiotic with three components...neomycin sulfate, polymixin B sulfate and bacitracin. If this combination is in ointment form, many times you will find it called "triple antibiotic ointment" or it's Trade name, Neomycin. Polysporin is a combination of two antibiotics, bacitracin zinc and polymixin B sulfateBy combining the three antibiotics, one may treat or prevent a wider range of bacterial infections.<For more information see the Related Link. If you are allergic to penicillan, you should use Polysporin, instead of Neosporin to avoid potential hives. Guest FullMetalFrank
Off topic here, but thanks SO MUCH for the poly-vs.-neosporin answer! I am allergic to penicillin; and have avoided using both neosporin and polysporin for years because I got an adverse reaction from neosporin once; I thought they were the same! Now I know that polysporin will be likely OK to use! As for the scratch, I'd treat it as the others mentioned, clean it up and dry, then apply a light antibiotic cream of your choice.
