Walliered
Da Vid must have eaten some rubber at the kennel and vet had to put him on IV and keep him overnight. X rays showed the rubber had made it to his colon and he would not need surgery. My question is: he was severely dehydrated. It does not appear that he is drinking much at all. Please tell me again how to entice them to drink water. Thanks
Batmom
If he had IV fluids at the vet, he might not be thirsty for a time. But, if he needs extra fluids for a few days, my best trick is to add a little something to the water and to offer a cup at regular intervals. For example, 50-50 apple juice or unsalted broth and water, offering a cup every hour or hour and a half. A teaspoon or two of honey or molasses is also an enticing addition. Sorry your boy had to spend the night at the vet. Hope the rubber passes on through with no further issues. KF_in_Georgia
I've put something sweet in the bottom of the bowl (pancake syrup at my house), let the dog start to lick it, and added water while the dog was licking. (This was when I needed a full bladder on a dog so the vet could draw a sterile urine sample.) Also, if he'll eat, add water to his food. Canned food has lots of water already, or you can add warm water to kibble.
