Guest firegypsy
Hi all. I'm in CT and grew up with Greyhounds. My family was involved in a rescue organization back in the 80's and we had several of our own, fostered others and advocated for Greyhounds every chance we got! I now have a family of my own, and when my youngest turned 5 last week we made the call to adopt a hound. My husband, my three kids and I went down to pick up our girl on Sunday. She's absolutely perfect and lovely and has completely won my heart already. I love her and the feeling seems to be mutual. However while we were there there was a HUGE guy that was so sad and attached completely to my husband. Wouldn't leave his side. He was also pretty beat up with many battle wounds, some not completely healed. He was fairly motley and didn't even look like a greyhound. I don't think he'd ever been brushed, he was scraggly and all the spots where he'd been stitched or otherwise repaired were shaved down. He also had a fresh puncture wound in his ear. The woman there said he was lovely, but had a really tough past. Sooooo, my husband petitioned for him to come home with us. How could I say no? He's had several baths since Sunday and I have logged over 8 hours of brushing. I'm still getting hunks of hair. BUT he's super appreciative and shaping up nicely! His racing name was Check It Out, call name Paladin. He is a 89 pounds of love. He's back with a white flash on his chest. Darby is our gal, she's 56 pounds of dainty sweetness. She's classified as a blue brindle, but she's more of a faun brindle to my eyes. I'll try to get some photos up once I figure out how to post them! Looking forward to getting some good information on feeding and sharing my crazy adventures with the new hounds.

Guest firegypsy
I know! LOL! Paladin roaches everywhere he can. The best is that he LOVES our leather sofa and sprawls/roaches on it all the time. BUT because he is so flippin' big he falls off of it constantly! Poor guy! He's also begun hording soft things. So far he's protected us from my kids screaming, flying monkey, a few errant beanie babies and a reindeer that apparently had evil intentions. Darby is fantastic. Yes, she sits! She knows her name, is super responsive etc. Paladin? Well....he's adorable. Let's just leave it at that. He needs some elbow grease, that one! DesiRayMom
Welcome from Ohio!!!! That doorstop roach is too cool. My heart LIVES for big black boys. They're the bestest. Gorgeous little girls come in a close second, though. Quote Blessed is the person who has earned the love of an old dog.
