my girl has limped on and off all her life has had several exams and is on Deramaxx and Tramadol for arthritis and old racing injury in her leg. Recently, she holds up her paw(same leg as always, front left) and doesn't put weight on it for two or three steps and then limps several steps until she warms up..she walks fine, roaches, eats and seems content. The limp/problem is only when she gets up, I don't know what to do for her..going to try greyhound gang get up and go supplement she has been on Dusquin the last year and other supplements before that. She was injured her last race, do I take her for xrays again? how often can they have them done? for over three years since I got her as a bounce, I have been nervous that her limping is something else but this is the first time she has lifted the paw off the ground but she gets over it so quickly..could the Deramaxx become less effective with time?

I don't know, but I would be careful of the effects of long-term usage of Deramaxx and Tramadol. We used them for our Rottie, along with chiropractic and accupuncture, but we made that conscious choice in order to keep him comfortable and walking for as long as possible. They work, but you should discuss possible side effects with your vet.

We have used a series adequan injections on one of our Greys with excellent results.

Good luck, I know how it pulls at your heart to see them hurting.

we look at her foot with a light and it has a hard crust on the edge..could that be a corn?

Corns are usually circular and very hard to the touch. If she's got something like that on the edge of her pad, it could be a corn and those can be very painful.

:nod Yes....thanks for sharing this info.

I've just been through this with my grey. I did do xrays( and 3 months of pain meds) and my vet was not able to find anything wrong...nor did he even know that greys get corns!

Orthodpedist knew right away! Now that its gone, she's no longer limping!!!

Good Luck with figuring it out for your baby!!
