Guest CampWhippet
This picture will show what I am talking about. This is a view of the bottom part of her back legs, the tendon on one leg is quite swollen. If you look at the one on the left you can see it is quite swollen, nearly three times the size as the one on the left. It is not bothering her movement but I noticed a few days ago she was standing with her right leg off the ground. Again, not limping or any favoring when she moves but will sometimes lift it off the ground when standing. It was today after a good run I noticed it is quite swollen. I feel bad that I didn't notice it yesterday or the day before but I checked her over really well and I don't think it was swollen. I have read up on it. This page seems to have good information: Possible Injury And I have seen some sites with support braces that dogs can use too. Any one have a dog where this occured and what was your treatment plan? Of course this has to happen 2500 miles from home.
tbhounds
Could be a soft tissue injury- muscle tear. I would ice it and rest the leg until you can get to a vet.
Guest CampWhippet
Update: The swelling has never gone away but it does not seem to bother her. We leashed walked her for a month in case it needed to heal and since getting home have let her tear it up by the lake and she has no soreness following that. I hope it does not tear out in the future. Fingers crossed.
Guest Swifthounds
Sounds (and looks) like scar tissue from a healed partially torn or bowed tendon.
Batmom
Will keep fingers crossed, Jonathan. FWIW, Joseph's seems to be getting sloooooowwwwwwwwly smaller over time, and he has done some romping with no ill results recently.
