So, Ziggy finally took the pills, all 5 of them, and is chilling now. I don't like him on this storm calming med. But. we are supposed to travel home tomorrow. It is a 1.5 day drive. e-vet said no food for another 12 hours until the diarrea meds kick in...so that may be a reason to go tomorrow, but i hate traveling when he's not well.

any opinions?

Do you see any slowing of the diarreah. Usually within hours of meds, Dustin shows some response - though it usually takes a good 24-36 hours to get back to normal.

By the way, is Ziggy willing to drink on the road? My hounds do, but Husband's does not. If he won't drink on the road, you need to be very careful as he will dehydrate quickly if he still has diarreah.

If he drinks, and you think he will not get to stressed out by the potty stops, then maybe going home would be OK.

he hasn't gone out since before the vet, but it has slowed...now it seems just like a dripping of blood from where he lays. the storm meds have him pretty spaced out. i DON'T like it all.

He didn't drink on the trip here...that is a really good point.

Does he generally like car rides or do they make him stressed? Cerenia is good stuff for vomiting and it should help his tummy stay calmer on the ride.

Try a mix of low-salt broth/water or pedialyte/broth. Maybe the slight flavoring will keep him interested in drinking.

Go easy on the ACE. While it looks like its knocked him out, inside his head he may still be reacting to the storm. Do you have a rectal thermometer?

Today and tomorrow there are strong storms in the weather forecast for KY and surrounding states. Will traveling in storms add to his stress, or would he be better off staying indoors in the house. just something to think about that you might not anticipate otherwise.

Hope he feels better soon.
