Good Thoughts For Kelly Please :(

The other day Kelly started having peeing issues (post here) which we thought might be a UTI, as he had suspected one back in Feb. But the vet, who we saw today, couldn't find anything abnormal in his pee. From the symptoms we described - the main one being peeing for 4-5 mins with very little flow, then needing to go again immediately, leaking urine and needing to go out in the night - she thinks he may have bladder stones or, worst-case scenario, a growth/growths in his bladder. sad.gif Which could have caused the problems he had back in Feb too.

We didn't want to wait to get this checked out so tomorrow morning he's going in for X-rays (2 different sorts) and an abdominal scan, and will also have bloodwork to check his kidney function. For the X-rays etc he will need an anaesthetic, although we've been assured it will be a 'safe' one for Greyhounds - I made sure I asked! I think it is called Propofol (sp?).

Of course I am freaking out anyway, especially as he may need surgery if it is a blockage. And here I was hoping that THIS year might be a little less eventful health-wise for him. sad.gif Please please please could we have some good thoughts via the power of Greytalk to keep my boy safe tomorrow. Thank you.

Thanks so much guys. I had a feeling this wasn't going to be simple... because nothing with Kelly ever is! But it's still scary. Will update tomorrow once we know what's going on.

Kelly boy, here's hoping it's just silly little stones that will be easy to treat once they're discovered! :hope

I've been through this.

My vet started with x-rays. One type of stones is clearly visible with x-ray.

Nothing. Only then did we move on to an ultrasound. George did not have anesthesia for EITHER procedure. Not sure why your vet thinks Kelly needs it? I was told that George lay peacefully on his back in the U shaped foam form they use and actually was wagging his tail as the technician did the ultrasound!

Naturally they found absolutely NOTHING...

But at least we eliminated many options.

Good luck to Kelly and you.

Just rang the vet. He is 'waking up nicely' and we can go and collect him in an hour. Argh, longest hour of my life! The vet wants to see us too so perhaps they have found something...?

GeorgeofNE - I think anaesthetic for X rays is a standard procedure here. Kelly is pretty spooky with strangers anyway and he certainly wouldn't lie on his back like that! He hates being lifted too and if he doesn't like what someone is doing to him, he will NOT stay still. So I think he would have needed it anyway even if it wasn't standard procedure. I DID make sure they were using the greyhound-safe one, Propofol (I asked the nurse again this morning too!). She said they would give it to induce anaesthesia, then take him off it and keep him asleep with gas.

If you don't mind me asking, what symptoms was George having? The main one Kelly has had now (and had in Feb), which was why the vet now suspects stones, was having to pee for 5 mins straight without much coming out. I timed him the other night and it really did take that long. Then, straight away, he'd have to have another pee which would come out in a big gush as if it was being 'released' after getting blocked by something.

Thank you so much to everyone for all the good thoughts! Will update again later when we've seen the vet.
