Guest freightsmom
My foster, Kai, has suddenly develped a very gurgly tummy in the mornings. He's been here for months and never had this until about a week or so ago. I'd like to give him something to help settle the stomach down. What have you used that worked? Thanks! Guest Swifthounds
Slippery elm bark. It's very soothing to the GI tract and because it's not an antacid, won't trigger the production of more stomach acid like Pepcid can.
Batmom
Pepcid is actually a little different than some of the older antacids. You wouldn't see a rebound increase in stomach acid after Pepcid is withdrawn -- it acts on acid-producing cells rather than on the stomach contents. IIRC Zantac falls into the same category. But, I would ask, does pup seem to feel unwell or is stomach just noisy? You can get some noise from hunger, slurping water, gobbling food, food that basically agrees but maybe produces some extra gas, etc. Quote Star aka Starz Ovation (Ronco x Oneco Maggie*, litter #48538), Coco aka Low Key (Kiowa Mon Manny x Party Hardy, litter # 59881), and mom in IllinoisWe miss Reko Batman (Trouper Zeke x Marque Louisiana), 11/15/95-6/29/06, Rocco the thistledown whippet, 04/29/93-10/14/08, Reko Zema (Mo Kick x Reko Princess), 8/16/98-4/18/10, the most beautiful girl in the whole USA, my good egg Joseph aka Won by a Nose (Oneco Cufflink x Buy Back), 09/22/2003-03/01/2013, and our gentle sweet Gidget (Digitizer, Dodgem by Design x Sobe Mulberry), 1/29/2006-11/22/2014, gone much too soon. Guest mbfilby
Like Batmom said, if there is no loose stools or discomfort I wouldn't worry too much.
Newgreymom
Both of mine get tummy gurgles once in awhile. I give them a GasX and they are fine after that. It works wonders...
Hubcitypam
Rex used to have gurgly tummy that would wake me at night. I found if I could just get a bit of food in him it would stop. It quit after I found a food that agreed with him.
