So, we're almost done with our *Performance with your therapy dog* classes. What's next for Ady Bea and me? Yes, we're taking the plunge. We're enrolling in the upcoming Canine Freestyle class! :colgate

We may never compete, but we're going to have fun! We're so lucky to have the 2008 Canine Freestyle Judge of the Year, Laura Ormsby, in our area as our trainer. We may not go to the head of the class, but we're going to give it a go and have fun. If those Beagles can excel at freestyle (Kris Hurley's amazing Beagles), there's no reason Ady Bea can't do it, too! :lol

Currently, we've got spins mostly conquered. This isn't such an easy task ... circling around me is easy for her, circling on my right side is easy, too ... but something about circling on my left makes it much more difficult. Just like our horses, she has a strong side and a weaker side on movements ... I think she's right sided just like I'm right handed. ;) Neither of us are all that great on things that require our left side to be dominant. :lol So, we'll keep working on those left sided moves ... and maybe have to come up with a routine that has only right sided circles! No wonder my sweet Ady Bea didn't make it to the track ... circling to the left isn't natural for her!!! :P

I encourage all of you to go watch some canine freestyle and sign up for some dancing with your dog fun!!! :colgate

This sounds SO fun! The videos I've watched are amazing. I keep thinking my boy Pogo would do well. We already do a lot of fun moves just for brain-activity (he's a busy boy! :lol ) To get his meals, he has to run through my choice of assorted moves, including spins, circling me in both directions, circling me as I move around, shaking, high-five, putting both front paws on my wrist, backing up, sit, down, speak .... All with hand-signals only! :lol You should see him move when I've got a bowl in my hand! :rofl

Have fun with it!

Xan, you really need to go with this! Your boy sounds like he'd love it and you'd have a blast. It also sounds like your boy is ambidextrous!!! Good for him!

Are there classes in your area? I know there's online classes available at the Karen Pryor website. You can compete by video! :colgate

Go for it!!!!!

Cha cha cha, Ady Bea!

Is anyone else thinking that a canine version of "Dancing With the Stars" would be a heck of a lot more interesting than some of the lame humans they have on there?

No wonder my sweet Ady Bea didn't make it to the track ... circling to the left isn't natural for her!!!

Well, we will definitely have fun ... but, it may be a while before we do any videos or competing. :lol We're going to work really hard to stay up with the Border Collies, Aussies, and Beagles! :colgate We're going to watch our trainer do a demo this weekend at a competition that she is judging. We hope to be inspired!
