Guest guinness_the_greyt Posted September 7, 2010 Share Posted September 7, 2010 Mellow Man Memphis aka Coldwater Arnot 7-8-99 to 7-7-10 This thread comes two months to the day that I lost my Memphis without warning. Everyday I thought today will be the day I'll write this... and I couldn't... still feel like I can't. But I need to honor my boy and begin to move forward. Thank you to all my friends who so selflessly helped me while I was devastated. Without your love... well, I'm not sure how I'd be. Memphis was the mellowest of the mellow... hence the name Mellow Man Memphis. A big black boy who was with our group for a year at every meet and greet and no one wanted him. Almost hairless and not cat safe. He was among the undesirables. But I loved him from the moment I met him... Always thinking he was the very best of the picks. A couple months after the passing of my pit mix I was at an event and saw that all the hounds in the "adoptables pen" had been taken... and there he stood.... My huge handsome mellow man! I walked over and took him. I never regretted it. Nothing ever bothered Memph... you could have him in any situation and he'd stay cool as cucumber. One day I came home from work on my lunch break to find his foot almost the size of a softball and his leg firey hot to the touch. I rushed him to the vet and they said it was extremely painful... From Memph's body language you'd never know it. The vet manipulated that broken toe and not even a flinch. Nothing ever bothered him. He was a food hound... but true to his nature never begged or got agressive or rushed the food bowl. I will forever miss coming home and the other hounds sniffing my legs to see where I'd been and Big Memph standing there sniffing upward waiting for me to lean down and allow him to sniff my mouth... always wanting to know what wonders I'd eaten without him! I miss most our "hug time"... Which came at the oddest place... The bathroom. The other hounds never ventured in the bathroom... the dreaded bathtub is in there dont ya know!! But that was Memph's spot. He always rushed in there and stand in front of me. Allowing me to wrap my arms around his giant barrel chest... he'd always sigh and wrap his neck around mine. I miss the smell of his ears. I miss him more then I can express. The greatest gift he gave me was waking me to let me know he was going... And in true Mellow Man fashion... he woke me up... collapsed... and died without and fuss or mess. He was a rare boy. My gentle giant. My beautiful boy. You gave him a wonderful life and he in turn loved you for it I'm so sorry for your loss. I know the pain your feeling as you wrote this. I am glad you finally wrote it and now you can move on each day. He will NEVER leave your heart or soul. You will carry him with you forever and to me that is wonderful. I lost my mellow girl last Thursday so I know what you feel even though our feelings our are own we all feel the paid and sadness.
