Robin Is A Total Mess--Our Poor Baby

Recommended Posts

Guest greytloves

If it helps any, my boy has Discoid Lupus and here is a photo of his nose. Occasionally the inside of his ears (only) and the corners of his eyes develop scaly looking areas. Then he goes on Pred for a while.

He also had a staph infection, here is what that looked like.

Now I know all things look different at times, but I'm not seeing either one of those in the pictures of yours. I hope they get to the bottom of it.

Sending prayers. Will be interesting to see what happens (or what doesn't happen) when he's off the Prednisone. Hopefully nothing. I'm sorry, did you say how much longer he will be on cephalexin? I would be preparing myself for the biopsy - just in case that decision needs to be made in the near future. Questions that I would have IIWM: What is the purpose of the biopsy? What conditions can be diagnosed using this method? What other possible diagnosis cannot be confirmed using biopsy? If nothing definitive comes back, what is the next step?

Regardless, Robin does look a whole lot better! He sound like he feels pretty good, too, from your description. Hope he stays that way! Praying for some real answers and soon!

only just read this, sorry to hear about poor Robin - I have not read all threads so apologies if someone has already mentioned this but have you considered Manuka Honey?

http://www.manukahoney.co.uk/

Other therapeutic uses

Active Manuka Honey has been reported to be effective when applied to fungal skin conditions including dermatophytes. A common feature of fungal conditions is that there is also a strong presence of bacterial infestation. While antibiotics can often provide an effective remedy, they are often inneffective at clearing up the fungal infection. The use of Active Manuka Honey is not restricted to skin applications alone. It has also been widely used for a number of internal uses and is regularly recommended in the alternative medicine columns in the popular press (see The Daily Mail). For further reading of press and media coverage of the honey then please click the 'news' link in the navigation buttons to the left. To read about the research that has been conducted into the medical uses of the honey then please click the 'research articles' button.

That really sucks they cannot determine 100% what the cause is. I hope something is found soon so Robin can feel better and you have less worry.

I took Robin to the vet today since our vet hadn't seen him in since August 30th and she wanted to take a look at him. Well, when we got there today and she saw him, her face just fell. She said yes, his skin isn't as crusty as it was, but he looks a whole lot worse to her in that he looks skinny. We weighed him and sure enough, he's gone from 82 pounds to 77.7 pounds since August 30th. Almost 5 pounds in 2 weeks. This is not good at all.

He's eating his regular amounts of food that he always has, gladly runs over for cookies and treats like he always has. So now on top of everything else we have the dreaded 'unexplained rapid weight loss', which is never good. :(

Nothing ever showed up on the culture they did. Today she scraped him in 3 more places just to make sure she wasn't going crazy and missing something obvious like demodectic mange...negative. Again.

So...she is mystified, her partner is mystified. Long story short, tomorrow morning she is calling and getting an appointment for him with the UF Vet School. She was going to run a thyroid panel today and send it to MSU but instead she drew blood and is just keeping it until further instruction from the vet school. She said at this point she is sending his chart to them and will defer to them as far as what they want to do.

Now I am seriously worried that he has cancer or some other horrific condition. Our vet agrees this is no simple food allergy and we've ruled out every skin condition we could think of. Hopefully it won't take too long to get seen at the vet school. In the meantime, I was giving him prednisone every other day and she told me to stop the prednisone as they will want him off that if they do any biopsies or anything else.

If you could say a prayer for Robin or just keep him in your thoughts, I would really appreciate it.

Oh no.....how scary...I agree with the others, the weight loss may very well be due to the pred. Hope he can get an appt quick. I have said anytime we need to go to a specialist in the future we will be going to UF. Had too amny bad expeierences with specialists here.

Hoping it's just a really uncommon allergy or something...

Haven't been here since my last post and was hoping to knot see a topic with Robin's name. Oh, poor guy and poor Mom! If your Vet feels that time is of the essence and the Vet school can't get him in, there is an excellent Specialty Clinic just around the corner that has a stellar reputation, Please consider having your Vet contact them. I will be praying - hard!
