HopeForHounds
I'm sure I'll laugh about this at some point. I just finished photographing some Bling, I often use a starfish as a prop. I came downstairs and couldn't figure out what was on the floor, black and brown crumbs. Then I saw the Bling on the floor accross the room and the paper I used as a background. Jet ate the starfish! It was about as big as my outstretched hand. So, do I make him vomit, or just watch him? Charlies_Dad
If it's a 'local' starfish (from US/Canada waters) it's unlikely to have any toxins. It's more the rough skin that could cause Jet to be uncomfortable. I say watch him as likely he will be okay. HopeForHounds
Darn, it won't let me open the link. Since it was dried and who knows how big the pieces were that he swalloed I'm just keeping an eye on him. I think this is the oddest thing thus far that he has eaten. If it's a 'local' starfish (from US/Canada waters) it's unlikely to have any toxins. It's more the rough skin that could cause Jet to be uncomfortable. I say watch him as likely he will be okay. I got it in Florida about 6 years ago. An earlier incident: http://forum.greytal...hen-theyre-dry/ Okay, now I can open it. Thanks, that is pretty much what I was thinking. HopeForHounds
Strider ate one back in '05 - he's still alive and well. Good to know. I wasn't overly worried, this dog has eaten lots of things he shouldn't. His most favourite thing is vet wrap. I can't put a roll down when I'm using it, or the next time I'll see it is in the yard a few days later. Guest LeanneSchatz
My Sizzle has also eaten one, it was a santa starfish ornament. She was just fine! I panicked too! I am sure he'll be fine! Don't you wonder what in God's name posses them to eat the things they do! Good luck!

ozgirl2
Cody ate one off the Christmas tree (it was painted like Santa!) back in '96 and she lived till '05 (age 12)!! I called the poison control center & when they finished laughing, they said it should be fine! Now you MUST buy one of Char's greyhound/starfish necklaces!!! (I have TWO!)
