Joiya Mast Cell

I am so excited :) :) Some might remember I posted a couple weeks ago that our non grey Joiya was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor. We brought her to see an oncologist and had a bunch of tests done to confirm that it hadn't spread to any organs (yeah!). She referred us to a specialty sugeon who operated last Tuesday. Now let's just say it doesn't look (visually)pretty but she has been her usual happy self since we brought her home. And then we get the great news today that they got a clean cut all around it!!! I am so happy :) Maybe 2010 year of the sick dogs is gonna turn around for us!!!

Yea for clean margins!!! Did they say what grade it was??

They said it was a grade 2... he told me it could act like a grade 1 or could act like a grade 3... which really confused me. DH and I agreed that we were going to give her the best shot at surgery .... and we are standing by that... no chemo

That's awesome!! They couldn't get clean margins from my Naz (the tumor was on his hock).

We decided against chemo as well.

*hugs*

Same for us... right on the bum, on muscle. Our vet discussed the options of him taking it off to a specialist - so we went with the specialist because it was taking muscle...like I said - not pretty. But she is healing well and happy. Sad thing is I had a lot of doubtful moments whether I was doing the right thing seeing the scars of it all, felt selfish. I think something I have come to is you do the best, make the best decisions - and stuff just happens. Sorry about your Naz, but depending on the grade could have had a lot of happy days.

So glad to hear it! :) :)

I'm nervously waiting to hear about Bentley's test results for possible mast cell on his toes. Here's hoping your good luck is contagious! :)

I went through this with my dog when she was 18 months old, golf ball size tumor on her thigh. Grade 2 but they got clean margins. I also decided against chemo and she is almost 10 now. :)

It was grade 3 and it came back about 4 months after surgery to remove it. His quality of life was great on pain meds until the tumor went out of control and ballooned up his leg. The day he spent the entire morning panting in pain was the day I let him go. :( I had a lot of guilt, but in the end, I feel I made the best decision for him in not putting him through multiple surgeries or amputation.

I'm so glad yours is doing well :colgate
