I lost one very very sudden like you, in fact I lost two suddenly and I know what a shock it is, but with time you will see it is a real gift, once you get over the raw pain you will appreciate that this beautiful soul lived right up till the end. He was not aware of what was happening I am sure and so he was not scared or hurting so try to hang on to that and with time this will get easier, and you did give him a wonderful end of life, with joy and like someone else said contentment and that is all any of us can pray for, be gentle with yourself and know this gentle boy loves you and watches over you, keep your mind open and he may come see you to tell you he is fine! Not only did you have no time to prepare yourself (not that there is ever really enough), but you wanted to give him the love and happiness he so deserved. But you did, totally, and he knew it.
