Guest arlosmom Posted May 15, 2010 Share Posted May 15, 2010 (edited) Our Sweet Princess Jewel Aka Barts Guccie 04/24/05 5/01/10 Our sweet princess , Jewel, died in a bizarre coursing accident 5/1/10. She died quickly, in my husbands arms, was in no pain, and did not suffer. She was doing the only thing she loved more than us, running all out-full tilt-pedal to the metal. She was glorious to watch in flight. My husband and I are devastated, but knowing that she didnt suffer gives us some solace. The love and support of our greyhound family and our church family got us through the first few terrible days. Our house has been brightened with flowers and plants, and our spirits have been brightened with calls and cards. Jewel was such a character, she loved people and dared dogs to invade her space. She spun round and round for treats, roached readily for belly rubs, and adored all her toys. She carried them from room to room placing them all in just the right place and was so jubilant for breakfast she would pounce and throw them all over the living room in glee. You know they must be set free from the prison of the toy basket. She would stand in the corner of the field at play group and pout when she discovered it was play group and not lure coursing ,. She was my Ju Ju Bees and Sweetums, and she would wake me at three in the morning to go outside and RUN! Her racing name was Barts Gucci. It took a while to settle on Jewel. We could have named her Shadow, everywhere my husband went, she went too. She adored him from the day he drove her home from the kennel in Greensboro. She was his girl. She was my girl and now she is forever our angel. Run free my sweetums you left us doing what you loved. I wish we could all go like that it was just too soon.
