How Long For Cut Pad To Heal Completely?

So on Wednesday of last week Lando cut his pad on some glass, but it appeared to be fine and not bothering him. On Friday he developed and limp, and we could see what appeared to be a small shard of glass in his paw. After discussing with the vet, we soaked it in Epsom salts for several days and attempted to remove the glass (unsuccessfully) with a magnifying glass and needle-nose tweezers. By Sunday, we were unable to see the glass anymore, and the cut is looking almost healed. We're hoping that the glass came out on its own. He still has a very definite limp, though. Since it was a puncture wound, would it take longer to heal internally that it would appear on the surface? How long before the tenderness on a cut pad goes away and normal walking usually resumes? He walks fine on our walks outside on the sidewalk, but has a pronounced limp on gravel and almost always lifts the paw when standing.

Tough call. If there's still something in there, it won't heal. If there isn't, it can take a week or two for the tenderness to go away. Wouldn't hurt to keep soaking it in the Epsom salts.

Thanks for the tip about the Epsom. I'll keep doing that. We'll be dropping by the vet's tomorrow to pick up his giardia meds (poor guy can't get a break!), and I'll see if she's concerned about it.
