Hubcitypam Posted April 16, 2010 Share Posted April 16, 2010 (edited) Too true. I received a text yesterday that one of my favorite adoptees went to the bridge from Osteo. In 2001 a greyhound breeder took 5 males and one 14 month old female that had a simple fracture to the vet on their usual Monday Morning kill truck. The vet put down the boys but he couldn't bear to put down the white puppy. He kept saying "after this next appointment"...then at noon a rottie that had been hit by a car came in and he used the grey as a super emergency blood donor. Then he REALLY could not put her down. She came out the back door and we named her Angel for being there for the rottie. She had a great life with her Moms but the Osteo came on too hard and too fast. Godspeed Angel. krissn333 Posted April 16, 2010 Share Posted April 16, 2010 I always knew that the odds were stacked against me - I have four greyhounds...the odds of at least one of them getting cancer are pretty high. Ace has chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and now Sutra possibly has osteo. Ace has been receiving treatment for a while now and is doing well. Today Sutra is very chipper and his limp is less pronounced. Thank goodness his meds are curbing the pain a bit. He happily ate his breakfast and is sacked out on a bed, just like the others are. I had 4 at home, 2 more at the Bridge. (neither of which died of OS). I did the same thing, just waited for my turn. And in Oct of this year, My turn came. Dima got it. sdisto Posted April 17, 2010 Share Posted April 17, 2010 There is an informal greyhound survey refered to by Dr Couto in an article on the OSU website. http://vet.osu.edu/2096.htm In that survey, 44% of greyhounds deaths are attributed to cancer and 22% to bone cancer in particular.
